I had a pretty good day today. I only teared up a couple of times, and was actually happy most of the time. It was a beautiful sunny spring day, although with a strong cold wind blowing. We braved the gigantic Meijer superstore (on a Saturday morning!) to buy Easter candy to send to the children. I also looked for some nightgowns for my mother. Back when we thought she might return to her assisted living apartment, the Duchess had suggested we not add too many things to her room. Now that we know she's staying where she is for awhile, I think she could use a few more easily wearable items. Sometimes she runs out of clothes before the laundry gets done, and she hates that. She is still very particular about her clothing, which makes it hard for her when other people have to help her dress. She does not appreciate their choices sometimes! However, the clerk at Meijer informed me they don't carry nightgowns any more. No more nightgowns?! What a world! Of course, I never liked nightgowns anyway. They're very inconvenient. But they are what my mother prefers. Once home with our booty, I sorted it all out by destination on the dining room table, so I can gloat over it before I get around to packing it up and shipping it.

We went for a walk and saw ducks nesting by the creek. Blue scylla carpet the woods. All kinds of daffodils are just on the verge of blooming now. However, I think they'll be intimidated back into stasis by the wintry mix and SNOW that's supposed to descend tonight. When the weatherman comes on with his aggravatingly gleeful announcements of more snow, we just rock back and forth and chant "Make it stop, make it stop!" I know it will end soon. For the last two years, the final snowfall has been on April 24.

We tried the first episode of Hostile Planet on the National Geographic channel. Bear Grylls narrates, and it's unintentionally hilarious--very reminiscent, to me, of the Monty Python take-offs on British documentaries. I've found a new type of death that will, for the time being, constitute my ideal. For future interviews, when I am asked, "And how would you prefer to die, Ms. Ismo?" I would reply, "I want to be a mountain goat and fall over a 200-foot cliff with a snow leopard biting my jugular vein!" That would be seriously awesome. Bag the skilled nursing care!
