Boxthorn of Trill
Apr. 15th, 2019 10:34 pmNotre Dame cathedral burned down. The rose windows EXPLODED. So they said on the news anyway. They were some of the most beautiful stained glass in the world. They don't even know how to make those colors any more. And now I'll never see them. I was screaming inside. I never thought I'd live to see such destruction. The tragicomedy of it all is that it drove me to stress eating, and I consumed half a pint of Haagen-Dazs in the middle of the afternoon. The burning of a thousand year old cathedral is a reason for stress eating that I could never even have imagined. My mother sinking into dementia didn't make me pick up the spoon, but those stained glass windows. . . . Le coeur en cendres. It didn't help, of course. I mean, what a ridiculous idea. The apocalypse will be televised, and ice cream will be provided for all!
Up until then, it had been a pretty nice day. It's amazing how much optimism can be inspired by a little extra sleep. The sky was blue, and the formerly devastating snow was captivating and delightful under a spring sun. Everything sparkled, and then the snow transformed into jewel drops that played a happy tune as they melted from trees and eaves. I packed up the Easter candy, and the Sparrowhawk took it off to the UPS store. I sent Queenie's birthday card--not late, for once. I made bread. I was almost out of yeast, and I put a lot of oatmeal into the dough, and the combination meant it didn't rise very well. I tried to coax it, but it came out more dense than I would have liked. However, the flavor is good even if the texture is a bit lacking. The Sparrowhawk ate it without complaint. I went for a walk. I ordered two new nightgowns for my mother. I hope she'll like them.
