Wheat of Leave

A bit of a down day for both of us. It was chilly, blustery, and dark. We were both kind of slow getting started. The Sparrowhawk went to the grocery store and made a gorgeous vegetarian pea soup with extra diced vegetables for flavor: carrots, celery, mushrooms, leeks, onions, and garlic. It smelled divine when it was cooking, and I was bold enough to taste it. I think our non-meat eating friends will enjoy it. The others will enjoy some different dishes that I will prepare later. I "helped" quote unquote with the soup--that is, I found the recipe and discussed how to adapt it, and took some turns with the stirring when the diced veggies were getting pre-roasted in the oven, and when the soup was cooking. But he really did all the important parts! My only real accomplishment of the day was labeling the action figures that were cluttering up my office, and lugging them back into the attic. It's looking as if I'll have to call the toy donation place and see if they'll take them, but I can't get that done before our visitors arrive, so I'm re-stashing them. I have an awful lot of things I'd like to do before then. It looks as if we'll go up north very briefly. Tomorrow will be the only day that it's not raining, so we can go then, stay overnight in the lakeside motel, and then come back home on Tuesday, before it starts raining again. So I'll still have Tuesday night and Wednesday to get a bit more cooking and whatnot done. I'm not really sure the trip will be fun. We won't be able to walk on the shore, because there isn't any shore in this kind of weather. The water level is so high already that when the waves come up, there's nowhere to walk. But if we don't go tomorrow, we might not see the Lake again until spring, and that would be sad. So we'll give it a try, unless the weather takes a turn for the worse tomorrow.
