MeadowBunting of Bliss
Apr. 12th, 2020 10:54 pmIt was a pretty good Easter, all things considered. I put on a white skirt and my pearl earrings, and a scarf that I think is the first one I ever bought--must have been 50+ years ago. It has a green border and the white interior is filled with stylized tulips in every color of the rainbow. It's pretty old, so it has a few frayed spots, but it's still colorful--not unlike me. We had bacon and hot cross buns for breakfast, with a bunch of daffodils from the back yard on the table.I thought it was going to rain all day today, but apparently the forecast changed. After breakfast, it still wasn't raining, so we went for a walk. The Sparrowhawk stopped to take pictures of all the flowers we saw along the way: violets, celandines, scylla, wood anemones, bloodroot, bluebells, and more hellebores. There are lots of the spotted leaves of trout lilies, a/k/a dogtooth violets, in the woods, but the flowers aren't out yet. Mr. Science in Pennsylvania says the bloodroot is done there, and the cherry trees are blooming.
I finished my story. It's just short of 10,000 words. It feels good to have finished something, although I have no idea if anyone else will get it or like it at all. It's a strange story with several layers. Again, not unlike me! We listened to music and talked to some of the kids by various means. We had the traditional ham for dinner, although it was better than usual because it was ham from the farm of the Crane Dance ladies. With colcannon and green beans, and a salad I made that had greens, goat cheese, grapes, walnuts, and some beets that I . . . er . . . found in the garage. I had stashed them out there on a shelf after a farmers market run, because it's good cold storage when it's cold. I peeled them and cooked them up, and they were still fine. We also have jelly beans and a bit of chocolate.
After dinner I was looking at the news, and the Sparrowhawk asked if I'd give him the remote. I said "Is there something else you want to watch?" and he said "Curling. Watching people get their hair cut. Infomercials." Ha. I do understand. So we re-watched "Hopscotch," a cult favorite of ours. I think I first encountered it on late night TV. I came in part way through, and Glenda Jackson was talking, so of course I was riveted. There are some great lines in this movie. One of my favorites: "Oh, DO stop following me around. You're making my dog very nervous. He HATES the smell of stupidity!" I'm sure TV news would make Glenda Jackson's dog very nervous indeed.
