Boxthorn of Bliss
Apr. 15th, 2020 09:53 pmLast night, I looked out the window and realized it was snowing thickly, and the snow had already covered the ground and clung to the still-bare branches. It was still there in the morning. I watched it gradually sublimate away as the day went on. Then it snowed again, several more times. The weather gods are playing with me.
I observe myself going through various cycles as this slow-motion pandemic catastrophe continues. I have a good day and tell myself I'm stoutly resisting dejection. Then I might see a series of horrid events and just lose my courage and fall into a sad and anxious funk. I was somewhat encouraged by my dream last night. My dreams don't reflect the current reality at all. I'm constantly in large congenial gatherings of people, as if there were no quarantine. Last night, we had all kinds of guests! My friend Deb and her husband were staying with us, but they'd already gone to bed when I got home. I was sorry to have missed greeting them. Moonmoth was also staying with us, but she was just getting up, because she's a bit of a night owl.
oracne was there, too, and another friend from our former writers group. There was a former student of my father's--not the real one, but some other guy I just made up--with a friend of his and the friend's two children, and a bunch of random fans. More people were turning up every minute. I had two thoughts: "This house is a lot bigger than I thought" and "I'm not going to have enough eggs for breakfast. Maybe I should make a quick grocery run?" I think my dream-self is trying to remind me that this sad state of things won't last forever.
