Cattail of Flourish
Aug. 8th, 2020 09:59 pmI slept fairly well, and might have slept longer, but I heard a thumping and banging outside. It was probably our neighbor loading up his truck for work. The Sparrowhawk and I went out for a walk early in the day. Then I cleaned up the kitchen and made myself scrambled eggs and toast. I started feeling sick a bit later, but it wasn't too bad. I had some rice and veggies for dinner and I'm okay so far. We had our tea outside. The weather is heating up, but it was still very pleasant with a nice breeze and everything still a deep summery green. Last night, we heard an owl somewhere in the neighborhood.
I wanted to send a birthday card, but my address book has been missing for some time. I was worried that I had lost it, but couldn't imagine where, since I never go anywhere! I found it in the pocket of the computer bag I got at Epic, which I used to use when I went to the bookstore to work. It must have been there since early March! While I was looking for it, I also found, or re-found, my Swiss Army knife, my baggie with re-usable straws and silverware, and my flask. That will save me a lot of trouble next time I have to find any of those things. . . . My address book is one of those little leather-bound books The Economist used to give away with a year's subscription. My father gave it to me in 2001, since he had subscribed and had no use for another address book. It has a lot of history in it. The younger people all have multiple addresses crossed out, tracking their travels around the world. Some of the older addresses are for people who have moved on to a place where the mail doesn't get forwarded. I'm not sure if there's more pleasure or pain in all those memories. But anyway, I'm glad I didn't lose it.
