Jan. 12th, 2018 08:45 pmJust so no one who has been kindly concerned about my mother will have to worry too long: She was discharged from the hospital after an overnight stay, and is back home in her apartment. I haven't heard from the Duchess yet about exactly what they said after observing her, but I'm assuming that, just as before, they didn't find anything obviously wrong. The Duchess stayed with her for awhile to make sure she was settling in all right. The staff will be checking on her regularly for the next couple of days. I called her tonight, and she had eaten supper in her room and was in bed (I think).
I can't exactly say she "wasn't herself," because she seemed very much herself, in fact, more so than before she was hospitalized. I think she got a lot of much-needed sleep and fluids, so she sounded more lively and seemed to be having less trouble hearing than last week.
However, not everything she said made total sense. She talked about the pictures in the hospital, and remembered them quite well--I knew which ones she was talking about. However, she thought we had been there before with her bio-father's second wife, who lived elsewhere and died twenty years ago, so I'm pretty sure that was not the case. And she started talking in a very sensible-sounding fashion about how she'd been planning to serve some oranges for dinner, and discussed what flavors would go well with them--lemon, lavender, and some other flavor she couldn't remember. Then she recalled that she doesn't have kitchen facilities. I noticed that she said "we" still have cookies, so I think her mind was still back in the other apartment, where she had a kitchen and a husband.
She also spoke of a number of things that are actually happening, so some of the time she's connected up with reality. Not all the time, though, and that is something new. I don't know how things will go in the future, but at least she's safe and well for now.
