May. 27th, 2018 09:39 pmThis morning at 4:30, I was awake. And so was one little bird. He was chirping away like mad. I thought that it was a little bit early even for pre-dawn, but the bird disagreed. Gradually, his friends all joined in too--happy little lunatics. But they were right. The sun WAS about to come up, and then it did. Fortunately, the birds calmed down after that, and I went back to sleep for awhile.
I dreamed I found a journal I had lost, on a shelf in an "antique" store full of junk and reused articles. It was one of the handmade journals that Moonmoth used to make for her friends, and it was filled cover to cover and stuffed with notes and markers of various kinds. I was so glad to see it again. I snatched it up! But then I turned to the Nonesuch, who was standing beside me in the dream, and said, "You realize this is torture for me! Because now I'll have to wonder who read this before they dropped it off here." I still wonder what was in that book! Lots of dream-ideas, I suppose. Maybe the records of one of my other lives.
This morning, the Sparrowhawk and I were the super-volunteers at church, meaning we had to go in and set everything up for the service and the coffee afterwards, and then break it down and put it away again. Thank goodness for our friend Keith, who came to bring the clean coffee mugs and stayed to help us. It seemed like a lot of work this time, and I was cross because I was so tired when we got home. I don't feel as if such minor tasks should sap my energy that much. It was a beautiful sunny day, but already 93 degrees by two o'clock, so we stayed inside for the rest of the afternoon.
I see that Gardner Dozois has died, and I am sorry. Another major figure fallen. I wondered if he knew something we didn't, when he said on Facebook a couple of months ago that he'd decided not to be on panels any more. That seemed like a kind of farewell to me. I can remember when he was young--which makes me pretty old, I guess.
