Seeing my mother’s physical condition is a bad trigger for attacks of existential despair and/or existential terror. I often fall into a dark state after taking her to the doctor. This is why I wish Movie Pass would let me watch more movies right now. Taking a walk always helps, even though I’m sick of the heat and coming back all sweaty.

When I was driving my mother, I saw a pear tree by the side of the road, thick with ripening fruit. I remembered where there was a pear tree on a route I used to walk often, but haven’t visited for awhile. I ventured out that way, saw several favorite trees I used to greet with pleasure, including a magnificent black walnut at the corner of an empty lot, and found the pear tree. Alas, it held a few small green fruits, not nearly ready to drop into my waiting hands. I’ll have to come back later. We harvested a handful of cherry tomatoes from one of our pots. They were so delicious. After the walk, my blood pressure was 101/63. Take THAT, demons!

I started trying to memorize the topography of Rome, but only got as far as the seven hills.
