Sep. 5th, 2018 09:37 pmMy joints are just aching a lot lately. To a degree that's disturbing. The discomfort was such that I blew off Black Lives Matter this morning. The thought of limping down to the demo place and standing around in the 87 degree weather made me very unhappy. To be honest, I didn't want to go anyway, because I'm feeling as if I don't want to do any things for people right now. I feel that is not really a good excuse, but it just hurt too much, so I didn't go.
The Philosopher called last night at 11:30 (to be fair, it was only 10:30 his time) to tell us that the surgery for his collarbone had been scheduled for 7:30 this morning. He had to be there at 5:30. He said "a friend" would go on the El with him, and stay until he was done, and then they'd "get a Lyft or something" for the return trip. He said he'd text us when he got home. After hearing this, I couldn't get to sleep for awhile. I was worried, and I'm sad that I can't rush to his side. Of course, if this "friend" is female, as these mysterious people without names in his life often seem to be, perhaps he's just as happy not to have his doting mother at his side. The Philosopher is not one to share about his personal life, so I'm just glad that he has some nice friends, even though I don't know who they are. He did text us briefly, just before 2 o'clock, without punctuation, to say he was home, in pain, but resting and being taken care of. So that's good. For lack of a better way to express our love, we sent him a care package from Zingerman's. We've also sent off an assortment of what we hope will be delightful amusements to young Raptor, who turns SEVEN this week!
We went and sat by the lake for a time this afternoon, in spite of the heat. It was fairly comfortable in the shade, and there was a breeze. The kids have gone back to school, so it's not as crowded. After awhile, I got too hot and had to go home.
