Rowan of Flourish
Sep. 17th, 2018 10:46 pmAnother special day--it was Kansas' birthday. He doesn't like a lot of fuss about his birthday, so the Diva and I went to the downtown market to pick up some of his favorite foods for dinner. That seemed like the least we could do. Meanwhile, Kansas mowed the front lawn. He said he just wanted to get some exercise. He also helped the Sparrowhawk haul his newly-alphabetized LPs back into the closet. We got ribs, brisket, and wings at the smokehouse, and two pies from the bakery: coconut cream and cherry-apple. Then we stopped at the grocery store for various other necessary items.
We had reached the situation that usually occurs at some point in a family visit: there's too much food to fit in the refrigerator. We've worked out a solution: keep freezer blocks in the freezer, put them in the cooler and store the bulky produce in there. After a meal or two, the extra food is consumed and everything fits in the refrigerator again. After we put everything away, Kansas and the Diva and the Sparrowhawk went to look at the fish ladder by the river. Muffinhead had already gone out for an exploratory walk, Angelbaby didn't want to go anywhere, and I considered the 87 degree weather and decided to stay home and chill with the dogs. While they were gone, I shucked the sweet corn and snapped the green beans.
Then we had another grand dinner of all of the above, plus cole slaw and cucumber and tomato salad prepared by the Diva. Followed by more leisurely crossword puzzles. The nice thing about all this is that they don't have to go home tomorrow--because they still can't. They have power in their house now, but the roads to get there are still impassable. They'll have to wait another day or two. I'm guessing maybe Thursday at the earliest, since some of the rivers haven't even crested yet.
