Today seemed more like half a day, and left me humming one of my favorite Tragically Hip songs, "A Beautiful Thing": "How one day took two days and they got spent." I was dreaming that I was climbing in the mountains with a backpack, and I had a lantern, and I lost it. This lantern was a marvelous device that could do all manner of things, and it was tragic that I'd misplaced it. I woke up, and my first thought was "Wow, I'm glad I didn't really lose that lantern." My next thought was that it was 5:45 am and the ON switch in my brain was pushed and wouldn't turn off again. I had to get up for a couple of hours, and I wasn't feeling very good. When the Sparrowhawk got up, I had some tea, and then decided I'd better try to take a nap, or I'd be good for nothing all day. Then I slept for three hours and didn't wake up until nearly one o'clock. Talk about the day being half over! It was particularly sad because it was a beautiful day, when I would have liked to be out and about. But it probably had to happen, because the sleep deprivation gauge was well into the red.

I decided to order some more tulip bulbs, because they were down to half price. I was glancing at Facebook on my phone while waiting for the website to load on my laptop--as one does--and saw a post from the daughter of my old friend Cee-Squared in Pennsylvania, saying Cee was in the hospital with heart problems. Waah! I just talked to her on Friday. Hoping and praying all will be well with her. Another friend's mother is in hospice now. Many troubles.

Later in the day, I went outside in the sunshine and picked a few more green beans that had ripened since the last batch. We didn't bother to cook them--just chopped them and put them in the salad for extra crunch. I picked the penultimate roses--a bunch of deep red ones, and a single yellow one, glowing in the sunshine. There's one more bunch of reds at the tip of a branch, but I'm giving them a day or two, to see if the buds will open.
