Weather-wise, it was a funny day. I guess I can't say strange, because this is Michigan autumn. Clouds come and go, rain spatters, blue sky opens and then closes behind slate gray clouds, against which gleams of sun make the leaves stand out bright as gold. When there's a bit of sun, it's like being inside a snow globe, but one where the colors are not white, but pale gold and misty green.

In a fairly dry period, the Sparrowhawk and I went out and raked up the leaves on our front lawn. We used up all the brown paper composting leaf bags. The city is picky about these and will only let you use the special kind with the city's name on them, which are not obtainable just anywhere. I didn't feel like going to the hardware store to get more, so we piled the remaining leaves into plastic trash bags. I figure it will be pretty easy to dump them from there into the compost bags, when we get some.

Since the Sparrowhawk still doesn't have his binocular vision back, I drove him to his appointment with the neurologist. The mirapex is making his feet swell, which apparently is a common symptom, so they're going to back down the mirapex from the current high dose and combine it with sinemet. Hopefully, this will maintain him at his current high level of functioning, but not make his feet swell. When we got home, the sun was out intermittently, so we went for a short walk and enjoyed the colors.

I had a somewhat amusing dream last night, in which I was discussing problems in negotiation with a woman who worked at the United Nations. She didn't think it was really possible for people to cooperate. She said that whoever had the most power would refuse to make concessions. "As long as they have the power, they think might makes right," she said. "But then when it's their own family at stake, it's always England before Cromwell, when there is 'still hope of a constitutional settlement.'" As Monty Python used to say. When I woke up, I had to go look up Cromwell to see what the heck this dream person was talking about. She seems to have been right about Cromwell, but I have to hope she was wrong about the rest of it.
