Krill of Leave
Nov. 4th, 2018 09:12 pmPerhaps someday I'll get over feeling that Sundays suck. Spending four hours working at church probably doesn't help, though. The instruments were playing, so I had to be on deck for rehearsal at 10. The Sparrowhawk and I were also designated super volunteers for the day, AND he had to put the new inserts for November into the order of service booklets. We went there at 9:30, which is when the minister arrives and unlocks, so I could help set up the coffee service and other necessities before going to rehearsal.
The service was a remembrance day for our people who had died, and incorporated a candle lighting for victims of the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh and also Maurice Stallard and Vickie Lee Jones. We had a time for lighting candles, displaying photos and keepsakes, and speaking of the dead. It was emotional. A couple of people broke down completely. If I'd known it was going to be that intense, I would have tried to fortify myself in some way. The music went well. We had saxophones, a trombone, and a bass. We played "Star of the County Down," a really pretty tune that I like, although we were playing it in three or four parts and I'm not sure we were all completely in sync with the piano. I'd like to believe that *I* was, and it was the others who were off! We also played "Wade in the Water," "Shine on Me," and "Arullo," a Mexican folk tune that is also very pretty. Then we had coffee hour, and I helped put away the music stuff, and then the Sparrowhawk and I dismantled everything and cleaned the coffee pots and mugs and put it all away. By then it was 1:30. Tired!!
After some back and forth emailing about my mother, the Duchess has decided we'd better take her to her PCP again. We're afraid she's in a type of downward spiral we've seen before. It ends up with a trip to the ER, and that's miserable for everyone. Possibly we could get a diagnosis and some help before that happens. The Duchess thinks it may be her heart weakening, and some more medication might help. I'm not as sanguine as she is, but it can't hurt.
The wind blew in the night, and it rained, and nearly all the trees suddenly let go of their remaining leaves. Both the front and back yards are thickly carpeted again. We'll have our work cut out for us when it stops raining! I was glad we enjoyed the fragile sunshine yesterday, while we could.
