GrayBirch of Celeste
Jan. 14th, 2019 09:54 pmAnother day on which I spent a lot of time not getting very much done. Laundry and random tidying. A couple of phone calls. I've been hearing about Marie Kondo and how she thinks you should ideally have no more than 30 books. I'm feeling that she and I live on different planets, which is probably true, given the difference between apartment living in a Japanese city and living in an old house in the Midwest. But it made me recall that at some point during our last move, I stickered my 100 most important books so I could make sure they got moved to the new location. So I went looking through old notebooks to see if I could find the list I thought I remembered making. I couldn't find it. But I did find a postcard with FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION and the autograph of astronaut Mark C. Lee on the back, and a card I had put together for the Duchess with some baby pictures of Ikes that I'd found in my files when we were moving. I promptly misplaced this card and it's been missing for YEARS now. I had looked everywhere. It turned up tucked into an old notebook. For safekeeping, no doubt. So I've addressed and stamped it and will send it tomorrow, before I put it Somewhere Safe again and it never turns up. This is a very minor victory, but it is one.
Tomorrow, there will be wintry mix and slippery road conditions until noon. Today, the Sparrowhawk had an appointment with his neurologist and did a bunch of errands, and when he came home, he was too tired to go to the gym. He had to take a nap instead. I'm worried that he caught something at the wedding. I don't feel very good either. I'd love to beg off doing this appointment, but the Duchess wrote an email about the appointment with Wound Care that Mother had today. There was a major incontinence episode. These days we always carry wipes and spare disposables with us, but she didn't have a change of clothes for Mother, and had to clean her up as best she could. It was quite traumatic for both of them. So, if I can possibly go tomorrow, I will. I think the Duchess needs a break. Maybe we'll feel better tomorrow.
