Since we're staying in a motel, I have reasonable wifi. It rained cats and dogs most of the way here, and there were the usual erratic drivers annoying me as I passed long lines of trucks in the rain, bumpity bumpity bump over the corroded pavement. But the advantage of having it rain on the highway is that when it stops, everything seems beautiful and it's like being on holiday. Whee, it isn't raining or snowing! Hallelujah! Now everything is easy. I sat in the lunchroom with Mother and Queenie. It was so good to see her, although I feel as if I've been seeing her, because we're always texting and sending each other Bitmojis. The Sparrowhawk went and sat in the lobby with Queenie's Fireman and the two of them no doubt exchanged stories and perhaps held an impromptu support group. Then we hung out with Mother in her room until she got sleepy. We checked into the motel and took a break, then returned around three when she was waking up from her nap. Queenie and the Fireman took off to see his pregnant daughter and her husband. We hung out with Mother some more until she went down to dinner. She was tired, and making a bit less sense than previously. Everything about medical care makes her cross, which I can certainly understand. When she was tired of talking, she chose a poem out of the big red Rumi book that I lent her (The Waterwheel) and made me read it out loud. She is certainly a unique character.

We walked to Main St. to get some dinner. The Sparrowhawk wanted to try the Mexican restaurant. I didn't like it that much, but we did get a lot of steps in. The Duchess, meanwhile, sent some email asking if we could change our plans so she could go on that Florida vacation the week after next, instead of helping move Mother into her new room. Mr. Science will superintend the move on his own, then go home, and we will come and stay here to keep an eye on Mother for four days. It's not very convenient, for a variety of reasons, but the Duchess really needs a break, so I bit the bullet and said we'd do it. She then unexpectedly said she'd come over tomorrow morning and have coffee with Queenie and me, so bonus. I do hope it goes well between the two of them.

Tomorrow will be a circus, because the third generation will arrive, in the form of the Former Naval Person and her new boyfriend--what a way to meet the family--and Dr. Nurse and Mr. Dr. Nurse. One reason I made this trip was to make things better for the FNP by increasing the total percentage of not-crazy family members for her to introduce the boyfriend to.
