Kittiwake of Simmer
Jul. 18th, 2019 10:02 pmHome again. When we got up, a really big weather front was barreling across the Lake, and they were predicting torrential rain, wind, thunder, big waves, and danger of rip currents. We thought briefly about trying to lurk in the bookstore and wait it out, but it sounded more and more unlikely that it would clear before we had to go home anyway. So we packed up, got coffee at the bookstore, and headed for home. We missed most of the rain. When we got home, it rained for awhile, but then cleared up, and the torrents never did arrive. I don't know what it's doing at the beach. Sigh. I actually love swimming in big waves . . . but when it's thundering, you mustn't. Unless you have a death wish and want to defy the gods, and I'm not quite at that point. I unpacked and did some laundry, and the Sparrowhawk napped, which he really needed to do. I think it may have been better for him to come home a bit early anyway. Eventually he was rested enough to pick up a few things at the grocery store and then go to the gym. It's all kind of mundane, but one perfect day is as much as you can expect on any given trip, and weather is always a factor. At least we weren't getting soaked in a tent. The next few days will be a horrible heat wave, and I plan to hunker down inside. It's a rude shock after spending so much time OUT, but it will be too darn hot for anything. I have a couple of treats to cheer me up: at the bookstore, I bought a new notebook (like I need more notebooks! I have a stack waiting to be filled) with a gorgeous cover painting by Josephine Wall, called "Aquarius"--which is me, so I had to have it--and a new book called The Age of the Horse by Susanna Forrest. Also, three pairs of pants and a shirt I ordered on sale came, and they fit! So I get to enjoy wearing them and admire my shopping acumen, too.
