Grasshopper of Flourish
Aug. 19th, 2019 09:27 pmI woke up quite suddenly at 5:30, and couldn't go back to sleep. (And as a side note, it hurts when I type because of all the violin playing. I'm getting my calluses back, I guess, and the first step is tiny white dots on the tips of my left hand fingers. They are a combination of numb and sore.) So I got up. However, today I actually carried out my decision to not waste time distracting myself on the internet. I'm not sure if this was self-discipline or just boredom. In any event, I wrote a birthday card for my remaining aunt's 90th birthday, cleaned up the kitchen, and finished sorting and throwing out the pile of Mother's art work. While I was at it, I did the same for a stack of my own work that came out of my parents' attic and had never been dealt with. It was interesting to see it again. Some of it I thought was fairly remarkable for a girl in junior high school--not necessarily because of its skill, but because of the raw emotional drive that was in it. I threw most of it out but saved a couple of bits to look at for awhile. In the end, an untidy bag/pile of things was reduced to a few items in plastic sheet protectors in a binder, and a few more in a portfolio that is not overstuffed. Eventually, all of it might go, but for now I can enjoy looking at it occasionally.
Then the Sparrowhawk came down and made me tea, which I sorely needed. I put on the public pants and took a walk, made the bread dough, took a shower, snapped the green beans and cut up the mushrooms in preparation for dinner, punched the bread down and put it in the oven. I sat down with my notebook for awhile. When the bread came out of the oven, we had a favorite summer snack: warm bread, spread with mayo, a thick slice of ripe tomato, and a sprinkle of salt. Yum. Later the Sparrowhawk grilled us some steak with mushrooms, green beans, and home fries. We have a lot of meals that I would pay to eat in a restaurant. This was one of them. We are quite spoiled.
While the Sparrowhawk was at the gym, I tackled the action figures again, and have now hauled out everything I had in the attic. There are more in the basement. Lordy I have a lot of action figures. There are some DC guys that I don't even recognize. I have to figure out a way to sort them into categories, not just throw them into random storage boxes. The really big problem is there are very few of them that I don't still love!
