Tumbleweed of Flourish
Sep. 8th, 2019 08:01 pmThe big mission of the day was to get up early and drive to Jackson, about an hour and a half from here, to meet Queenie and the Fireman for breakfast. They are over toward the other side of the state for the weekend, visiting their new grandchild, and seeing other members of the Fireman's family, and this was the time they had available to see us. We tried to find a place halfway between, but this ended up being most convenient for them, and it is rather hard to divvy the driving up exactly equally. We met at the Roxy, a diner I've never been to. It turned out to be a fun place with good, diner-ish food. My stomach has been killing me quite a lot. I was happy eating most of a waffle for the time it took to eat the waffle. Then I was sorry, but oh well. I survived.
We went down the road to a nice old park with a walking trail. Queenie was really enjoying everything, and I knew just how she felt. When I was not living in Michigan, I used to long just to see some cattails, or pine trees, or anything that was like home. She loved the cool, cloudy weather, and the soft sweet air. She said the air in Florida is hot, salty, and smelly. We had a lovely walk and took pictures, and then we had to part again so they could go see the Fireman's son and then zip back to worship the baby some more. I gave her my copy of The Age of the Horse, with a warning about the chapter on horse meat and slaughter, because it's tragic, and the package with charming socks and a washable book about bees that can be read in the bath, if you are a baby.
This package had quite an adventure, because I wrapped it up, and also wrapped up the gift for the Sparrowhawk's grand-nephew, and gave him Package A, the correct package, to be mailed to his niece in Wisconsin. Which he then put down on the table while doing something else, and when he came back, he picked up Package B--my package--and mailed it. Fortunately, his brother Fritz was going there for the grand's birthday, and was able to forestall the opening of Package B, and brought it back and gave it to us when they stopped here last week. Meanwhile, Package A was sent off properly. So it was all sorted out in the end.
After we got home, I did a little bit of writing, but basically I was done for the day. I hate it when it's still light out, but I'm not up to go out and do anything. But it was worth it to have gone to see my sister. I hope my stomach gets back to normal soon. What I ate for dinner: a few bites of chicken, half a baked potato, and a piece of toast sprinkled with salt. It's heavy on the carbs around here.
