All Saints of Shadow
Nov. 1st, 2019 09:48 pmThe weather was much nicer today. The sun even came out for awhile. We got up at oh-dark-thirty again, to be ready for the work crew. Of course, oh-dark-thirty is not nearly as early as it seems, because the sun is coming up later. I had a meditation and lunch date with Dragonfly, so I got to leave before 10. I have to say, I was glad to get out of the house for a bit, and to be away from the noise and confusion. I had a really nice time visiting with Dragonfly. The meditation was so peaceful and full of light that I hated to stop. However, a tasty cup of soup also beckoned. I ate a few bites of my half sandwich and brought the rest home for the Sparowhawk. When I got home, the crew was in the process of finishing up, and by four o'clock, they'd made a cursory clean-up and were done. Unfortunately, I had not realized that we can't reorganize the basement for a few weeks longer, because the reset concrete has to cure before we put things on top of it. Also, the washer and dryer will not be moved back until the crew chief comes back to check on things in a week. Consternation. It's not as if I don't have enough clothes to wear . . . and I'm only going to Philcon for three days, so how many clothes do I need . . . . I just feel perturbed at the thought that I can't wash anything for a week. Probably this would be the perfect time to do what I always used to tell the Nonesuch I was going to do one of these days: go to a con with a spare set of underwear and a t-shirt in a brown paper bag, to avoid over-packing. It could happen.
The whole house is covered in random smears of mud and concrete dust, alas. Cleaning up is really not their specialty. Also our yard is trodden into mud, and some of the foundation plants may never recover. Overall, I'm not displeased with the result, but there are some side effects I had not anticipated. Sigh. I'm sure it will all seem fine by Thanksgiving or so. Tomorrow I'm going to have to get busy, after two days of relative inertia. I have to practice the violin, make cakes, and think about Philcon panels. Aieeee. Calm . . . very calm . . . everything is fine . . . and waterproof!
