FishCrow of Ember
Dec. 5th, 2019 10:55 pmLo and behold, my "plan" which I half-jokingly laid out last night has actually worked. We slept well last night and woke up rested. The pain level dropped dramatically. The Sparrowhawk had an eye appointment to check on the surgery he had last year. HIs eyes are in great shape, he doesn't need cataract surgery, and his vision can now be corrected to 20/15. He has an appointment to get new glasses tomorrow. All good news!
I didn't have to go anywhere. I puttered around, took a shower, and went for a walk. It was still cloudy, but not as oppressively so as yesterday, so the air just felt crisp instead of freezing cold. I heard birds chirping and water dripping. I put up the Advent calendars, and went out in the back yard in my boots and cut a bunch of greens to make the Advent wreath. Actually I made two--one with our candle holder, and one with the old old black iron candle holder/basket that my mother used to use on her table every year. Right now, I'm putting ours in the living room, because the table is still full of things from the basement. When we get that cleared off, we can have candles in the living room and the dining room. I put away some laundry.
I started reading Poisoner in Chief: Sidney Gottlieb and the CIA Search For Mind Control, by Stephen Kinzer. It has to go back to the library tomorrow. I think I've read as much of it as I can stand. Oh my god it's HORRIBLE, and I don't recommend it to anyone who is already having problems with the amount of evil in the world right now. I've been reading about state-sponsored torture since I was writing my first novel, and I know way more about it than is good for me, but I can still be shocked. I started collecting all the Christmas books we have in the house. I have 23 so far. I'll be using them to build a barricade and hiding out in The Tall Book of Christmas, trying to free my soul from this darkness.
