Argali of Trill
Apr. 3rd, 2020 10:18 pmA much better day. After a reasonable amount of sleep, the sun rose and it was another beautiful day. "Do Over!" I cried, getting out of bed. I called Deb to check in, and we ended up having a lovely FaceTime chat with the Sparrowhawk and the Prussian joining in. News of Deb's brother: yesterday they were able to take him off the ventilator for several hours before they had to put him back on again. He was still unconscious because his kidneys are not working well so the sedatives had not cleared his system. Still, it's a step in the right direction. Also, my mother-and-daughter friends in MN are at home and posting on Facebook, so apparently not deathly ill even though they tested positive. Deb, who is a quilter and fabric artist and thus has a large stash of fabric, made nearly 50 masks to donate to the hospital. Of course she did!! Because this is just how she rolls. She also got a direct line to the hospital emergency manager (and again, I would just say, of course she did) to determine that yes, they really really want and need the masks. After that, Queenie called me to check in, and we learned that she and the Fireman got tested in Florida, because he is an emergency manager so he's a first responder. They're both negative, which is reassuring.
Then the Sparrowhawk and I went for a walk. We saw a hawk's tailfeather lying in the path, and then the hawk itself appeared and uttered shrill whistles. It was cool. We sat out on the screen porch for a couple of hours and I worked some on my story. I went into the back yard to look at my daffodils--two blooming this morning, a dozen by the end of the day--and learned two very displeasing things. First, after planting DOZENS of tulips in the last couple of years, I do not see a single one. I think critters are digging up and eating the bulbs, as well as the leaves from the rare bulbs that survive. Second, something actually PULLED UP two of the hellebores I planted. Pulled them up by the roots and left them languishing on the ground. I had to get the shovel and plant them again. I watered them in, and it's supposed to rain tomorrow, so I hope they will survive. The roots had dried out completely, so I am worried about that. Tonight while we were watching the baking show, we heard an owl hooting in the back yard. So that's two raptors in one day!
