Angler of Bliss
Apr. 14th, 2020 10:21 pmStrangely enough, I dreamed last night that I was driving home, and it started to snow. And I said to myself, "Oh, I don't like that." When I woke up, lo and behold, it had snowed! But not as much as in the dream. It mostly disappeared. It was blustery and cold, and the Sparrowhawk did not care to walk, so I went out by myself. It was refreshing, and the sun came and went as the clouds blew across the sky. When the sun was out, the light made everything cheerful in spite of the cold. Later in the afternoon, it snowed again, thickly but briefly. And then the sun came out again.
I ordered a belt from the nephew of an old friend from my former writers group in PA. It arrived yesterday, and I've been wearing it. It's a medieval ring belt, so there's no buckle. You loop it through the ring to make a knot, and the tail of the belt hangs down instead of tucking back into the belt loops. Well, I found I can tuck it back in, but it's a bit awkward. It's listed as a belt for cosplay etc. but I intend to wear it in regular life. The nice thing about it is that it's infinitely adjustable. It has a nice design of oak leaves and acorns, and the leather is decently supple. It will probably get softer with wear, so I'm trying to wear it a lot. The only problem is that it's a bit of a process to unknot it if you want to drop your trousers for any reason, and then knot it up again. I imagine it's more convenient for men than women. However, the stainless steel ring is big and round, easy to grasp if you need to throw someone the belt as a rescue measure, and equally effective for clouting someone on the head at a distance, so altogether, a versatile accesory.
I ordered a gift for Queenie's birthday: linden-scented liquid soap, aesthetic and practical. And sent some chocolate to Mr. Dr. Nurse, who is alone at home while Dr. Nurse is rescuing people from covid-19 in New York. I thought he might not be getting enough chocolate to stave off the dementors.
I got a surprise FaceTime call from Madame, the therapist. I was so pleased to see her dear old face. I suspect that the call was a mixture of professional responsibility to check on clients, and perhaps feeling a bit lonely herself. Anyway, it was nice to see her briefly.
