Since the temperature has gone down a bit, it was pretty nice in the morning, and I thought I should go for a walk, which I haven't done in awhile. The silphium has risen over my head and makes dark green walls along the path by the pond. It's not blooming quite yet, but black-eyed Susans are. We just learned today that the nuns are selling their Motherhouse building to be rebuilt for affordable elder housing. This is a good thing, but I'm worried about what will happen to the woods. I hope it will stay open and we'll still be able to walk there.

I bought 2 pairs of new pants, which arrived in the mail. It is now time for my bi-annual rant about the perfidious iniquity that is the women's clothing industry. One pair fit well and had a nice feel to the fabric. The others, in theory the same size and style, were cut differently and don't fit nearly as well, and the fabric is thicker and more spandex-y, even though it says it isn't. It's no use saying "Send them back and get another pair" because these are the ONLY two pairs I could find in the size and color I wanted. Sigh. I'll just have to belt them up so they don't slide down my backside. At least I got them half price.

After going for a walk, I was ridiculously tired. Perhaps because of sleeping less than 6 hours. I tried on my new pants, ate some bean soup, boiled potatoes and eggs and made potato salad and deviled eggs, and put in some laundry. After that I really had to sit down. There was a breeze, and it was still pleasant in the shade, so I sat under the umbrella in the back yard and had tea and did some writing while the Sparrowhawk tried to get his laptop repaired. A big box appeared on the front step! It held all the rest of my plates! Yippee! I unpacked them. They're great--just what I wanted. Lots of different patterns, very nice ones. There are two Venus Flytrap plates. It's a lovely pattern, as well as being a little spooky and fierce. Also a couple of Nightshade ones, as well as all the pretty flowers like Hellebore and Dog Rose.

We had a picnic-style supper on the back porch. The Sparrowhawk cooked some locally made bratwurst, which goes well with potato salad. For vegetables, we made do with what was left of the purple beans and pea pods. We ate off the new plates--Clematis and Honeysuckle.
