Sep. 4th, 2020 10:19 pmI'm dragging a bit lately. Don't really know what's wrong with me. I actually slept 8 hours the night before last, but still felt groggy in the morning. Last night was only 6, and definitely not enough. My stomach is still quite cantankerous. No matter how careful I am, nothing seems to suit it. Yesterday, the big wind storm came through, and by last night, the air had cooled off. Today was lovely, cool and breezy. Neither of us felt energetic this morning, but I went off to the grocery store early anyway, and the Sparrowhawk mowed the lawn while I was out.
I got a sitrep from Deb this morning. The sick friend is still with us, but not doing well. This is hard. I can only imagine how hard it is for those who are actually there. The flowers I ordered for the Duke arrived, and we got a lovely email from the Duchess appreciating them and describing their trip to the funeral. I'm very happy we could at least do something for them. I also got a call from the Poet. She's had her head buried in proofreading for the last couple of months. We arranged to have happy hour with them at their house in a couple of weeks. Her husband is on some kind of Dean Ornish-y total vegan no-fat diet, so they will provide drinks and we'll have to bring our own non-healthy snacks.
We've been accumulating beans over the weeks of quarantining, so I made a bean dish for dinner. I sauteed an onion, a red pepper, a couple of chopped carrots, and some fresh sage and thyme, and added a can of red beans, a can of chopped tomatoes, and a can of baked beans, and seasoned it with cumin, coriander, and ancho and chipotle pepper spice. Then I baked it in the oven for an hour. It was delicious--spicy with a hint of sweetness. I wanted to make corn bread, but didn't have time, so we ate it with rice and a dab of sour cream to cut the heat a bit.
