Sep. 27th, 2020 08:14 pmLately we've been hearing owls in the neighborhood, almost every night. First there were barred owls, and now what I think is a screech owl. It's very exciting! I feel somewhat sorry for the cute chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, and mice, but I have to admit there are an awful lot of them.
Very tired today. I was exhausted last night, but woke up at 5:30 anyway. Sigh. Our visit from friends went quite well yesterday. We met them at the botanical garden at 1 and went for a nice walk around the Japanese garden. We sat and chatted for awhile at one of the available spots, and then adjourned back to our house for cold drinks accompanied by cheese and charcuterie, followed in a leisurely way by dinner. We had prepped the mushrooms and bacon, keto-friendly stir fry, and salad in the morning, so I could finish it while the Sparrowhawk grilled the steak. We set up two small tables on the screen porch so we could be in the same area while appropriately distanced and in the fresh air. It was warm on the porch, but gradually cooled off as it got dark and the wind rose. We got to use the party lights that the Diva gave us. I had been worried that my hurt knee would not allow me to get through the day, but it limbered up with time and Advil, so I managed to do all the walking and fetching and carrying with very little discomfort. The exhausting part was just being with people all afternoon and evening! The conversation was perfectly pleasant--I'm just not used to that much extroverting any more! Hmm. If I ever was.
