Marmot of Shadow

I haven't been sleeping well. Yesterday, I woke up too soon and had to go back for a fitful nap that sucked up the rest of the morning, but didn't really help me feel less like crap. There are times when I dream that I'm still awake. Somehow that is not restful. So yesterday was pretty much a wipeout. I woke up too early today, too, but had a bit more energy, which was lucky, because it was a busy day. The DBs wanted to get together for coffee, but our previous hosts couldn't invite us back to their commodious deck because their back door is broken. So we offered. This morning we got up and rushed around, sanitizing the bathroom, setting out chairs and tables, making pots and pots of Death Wish coffee, and setting out every edible thing we could think of--cheese and crackers, sliced bread, PB and jam, a bowl of oranges, hummus . . . . When we say that we don't have anything for refreshments, it's not exactly true. We could have given them more, but most of them don't eat meat, and there's a strict vegan and a gluten-free person. Oh, and I also made some GF blueberry muffins.

They arrived around noon and placed themselves at appropriate distances and started drinking coffee. Heh heh. They'll probably be up all night. I had been regretting that my yard was not tidier, but the friend I'll call the Forager, because she knows all about native plants and edible wild things, took a tour and professed herself delighted by the "informality". She also pointed out where I have an evil, invasive buckthorn, which is good because now I can take that sucka OUT before it proliferates. The Coach brought a bag of scones, which delighted everyone who wasn't GF, and the GF one ate the muffins, so all were satisfied. The weather cooperated nicely, and we were all warm enough with just a light jacket. I wonder how much longer we'll be able to meet outdoors! Every time, I think it might be the last--really getting a strong dose of autumn this year.
