I am annoyed that when we get a couple of days of warmer weather, I almost always have a succession of things piled up that keep me from just lounging around enjoying them. Today, for instance, I woke up far too early, but got up anyway, because I wanted to go shopping early. I made my list. The Sparrowhawk was still sleeping, so I decided to make my own tea and not wait for him. BUT the need to clean one teaball caused a cascade of kitchen-cleaning. I washed the pots, loaded the dishwasher, cleaned the counters, and when everything was shipshape, I made my tea and a pot of coffee, leaving the other clean teaball for the Sparrowhawk to use when he came down. Which he did, just as I was finished my tea. So I went and put my clothes on and geared up to go out. Just in time for a long phone call with Queenie. Then I finally dashed over to the grocery store to stock up.

I told the cashier that I don't even know how to shop any more, because I don't know what I'm expecting or preparing for. She agreed with me. At one point, I accidentally stuck my foot out and almost tripped the other cashier, who was helping with the bagging. I apologized, and she said, "Maybe he deserved it! He's been bad this morning!" I said, "You mean, 'it wasn't a lick amiss?' That's what my father always said when he gave me a whack for something I hadn't done." Her eyes lit up, and she said, "Oh! And NO credit given for being such a good girl!" That cracked me up. I said "Yes! You know what I'm saying! I'm sure you were a very good girl too!" We both started laughing, and then we ended up bonding over how we miss our mothers at holidays. It's really weird how you can feel a kindred spirit with someone you only see in the grocery store, but I enjoy those people.

We tried sitting in the back yard, but by then, the wind was roaring through the branches so hard it was really kind of scary to be sitting under the trees. We retreated to the parch, which felt more protected. I had some texting chat with another friend. Then I cooked the dinner I hadn't cooked yesterday. I made some batter-fried zucchini, too. It's very fiddly getting all the batter-dipped slices in and out of the skillet, but it's tasty and fun every once in awhile. After dinner, we had yet another Zoom call! I may be a hermit, but I'm a highly digital hermit.
