I woke up some time before the Sparrowhawk. He hasn't been sleeping well lately. I took advantage of the opportunity to clean up a few things left from last night, then made a lemon-blueberry coffee cake with cinnamon streusel topping. I had blueberries from our late freezer out on the back porch, and didn't want them to go to waste. The coffee cake was done by the time the Sparrowhawk was down and ready for coffee.

It was a beautiful day, although still pretty cold. It was very bright and refreshing outside, though. We went for a walk, with some care for the path was even more slippery and icy than before. The melting process is a little farther along each day, and you can hear much more bird chatter than even a week ago. They are hopeful of spring coming, so I am too.

I had a Zoom with Moonmoth and the Nonesuch that was relaxing and fun, even though none of us had brilliant success to report. We spent some time laughing over pictures in the Nonesuch's old yearbook--the architectural constructions of (mostly) female hair back in the day! Wow! It's really very space-age and makes some of the young women look as if they came from another planet. I never even tried. I was a hair rebel from the start. It was a relief when people started being hippies, and all of a sudden, my long straight hair, bare feet, and blue jeans were the height of fashion. Before that, I was just considered weird. I rejected the label of "hippie" as well, however. I wished people
to understand that I was a serious person. Sigh. . . .

At some point during the evening, I noticed with shock and consternation that my poor Sparrowhawk had the most awful swellings around his eyes. They were all puffed up, and in fact, had blistery things under the skin. Our theory is that the nasty ointment prescribed by the dermatologist for destroying potential lesions on his scalp had irritated his eye area. It had already caused him much misery because it made his scalp hurt all week. DOCTORS!! They do things to you that are supposed to make you better, but in the meantime, they make you worse. I made him call the emergency nurse at his doctor's office, and she eventually called the on-call doctor. The Sparrowhawk talked to him and sent a picture of his face. Eventually the doc decided that it was probably okay, since the eye itself was not involved, and that watching and waiting would be all right. So we're hoping it will get better overnight. In the meantime, it is just sad.
