Yesterday was a busy day. I can't even remember what I was doing in the morning. We shifted our weekly Zoom with Deb and the Prussian to today, because they had to go to a funeral. I thought I would get lots done with that empty space in my expectations, but I didn't. In the afternoon, I continued with the file project, with occasional breaks in which I cooked dinner in bits and pieces so it would be ready to eat when we came home from visiting the cherry trees. We went to the Japanese garden in the late afternoon. The cherry blossoms exceeded expectations. The clouds had cleared away, and the sun was at the perfect golden angle to make the blooming branches seem lit from within. Among my archives, I see that I once invented a word to match Gene Wolfe' coinage of "fuligin," "the color that is darker than black." My word for the color that is brighter than white was "candens." The cherry trees were candens, and incandescent. We walked on around the rest of the garden while we were at it. That was true refreshment to the soul. The cool, fresh spring air, and the perfect western light, the sound of water . . . perfect.

Then we got home, quickly ate the dinner I had cooked earlier, and I had a Zoom of luxurious length with two dear writer friends from Philly days. I stayed up far too late. As a result, we were very sleepy this morning. We pulled ourselves together barely in time to enjoy our rescheduled Zoom with Deb and the Prussian. Then more files for me, while the Sparrowhawk went to the hardware store and picked up the raised bed kits that unexpectedly arrived after all, after they'd told us that there were none available. Pizza for dinner. Tomorrow my plan is to work outside before it snows again!
