I've been having my usual tummy pain for the last few days, cranked up to quite an uncomfortable level. I did not feel like doing anything. Fortunately, nothing needed to be cooked, because we had leftovers. I had thawed a packet of lamb with an eye to making Robert Capon's Lamb For Eight People Four Times part II. But when it got right down to it, I just wasn't feeling it. I didn't want a lamb and spinach casserole. So instead I made taco-flavored lamb with saffron rice and fajita-style peppers and onions. There was a lot of rice left over, and this was not too bad for my stomach. I was back on the oatmeal, applesauce and rice diet for a bit. Tonight I cautiously ate rice, green beans, and a hamburger with no bun that the Sparrowhawk prepared. I'm doing all right so far.

I also finished my A La Recherche du Temps Perdu Part II--or in other words, a big section of file retrieval and backup. I feel pretty good about that. And I went for a total of five walks last week, dodgy tummy and all. So that is also good. My window maple tree has been blooming for over a week now. The whole tree looks like one big bouquet. The outsides of the buds are red, and the flower tassels are yellow-green. I look forward to this every year. The redbuds have been on the verge of blooming for a week at least, but every time we have a cold snap, they go back into stasis. When the sun came out yesterday and today, the buds finally burst open into their pink clouds. Along the woods path, there's an abundance of trout lilies/dogtooth violets, more than I've ever seen. The banks of the creek are covered in thick masses of golden marsh marigolds. Farther uphill, masses of white wood anemones are blooming. The bloodroot leaves are up, and so are mini-thickets of May apples, though neither one is in bloom yet. Green spikes of lily of the valley leaves are poking up, but not yet uncurled.

Today is the Nipper's birthday! His presents arrived, and he called this morning to say he had opened them all, and had a grand baking rampage in which he prepared his own gluteny birthday cake. He was about to take Raptor to the bookstore. Later he was hoping to have a small in-person gathering with some of his vaccinated friends. We called and left him a voicemail of Mom and Dad singing the birthday song.
