Myrtle of Zenith
Jun. 10th, 2021 10:18 pmI got a haircut this morning and enjoyed seeing my stylist, chatting and joking with her. When I got home, I ticked off another item from my don't-wanna list. The editor of the Edgar Rice Burroughs story that I wrote wants a head shot, as he's apparently going to include photos of all the authors. I put on a nice shirt and went out in the back yard, where the Sparrowhawk used the natural light to get a pretty good picture of me while my haircut was still nicely arranged. I was pleased with it until the Sparrowhawk emailed me a copy that arrived in GIANT SIZE format, such that every wrinkle, spot, and hair was horribly visible. Aaauugh. Very few of us, I think, can bear such hi-def scrutiny once the first dewy freshness of youth has passed--certainly not at my age! With some fuss he managed to shrink it, so I hope it won't affect the editor like a sighting of Medusa's head.
Other than that, I didn't go out, because it was too darn hot again. The Sparrowhawk figured out, by the use of charts and graphs, that the amount of money we are saving by not using the AC between 2 and 7 is roughly 10-25 cents a day. Also, we're already doing various energy-saving things, so probably civic honor is satisfied if we turn the AC on at 6 instead of 7 . . . so we did. It still gets hot upstairs, because this is an old house, warm air rises, and the cool air struggles to get all the way up the vent to our room. But with the fan on, it's not too bad.
For dinner, we had salad with cold steak sliced over it, and some leftover rice with green beans and beet greens plus a box of "power greens" that were languishing due to not being put in a salad. I decided they'd be better off cooked, so I threw them in the pan with a chopped sweet onion and a little balsamic reduction. I always forget how much I enjoy greens--and they are ready in a jiffy. I also finished the soup I couldn't do yesterday. I'll freeze it for later.
