Copepod of Zenith
Jun. 30th, 2021 10:19 pmThe Sparrowhawk was going to mow the lawn, so I had to go out and clean up the leftover fencing materials that have been lying around out there. Finally! It rained, and I was lazy, but today was a pretty nice day, so I got out there and did it. Then I went to the grocery store with a list that included the Nipper's info about Raptor-preferred foods. I bought a whole lot of things we never eat, like cheese puffs, Goldfish, and chocolate Cheerios, as well as lots of fruit, hot dogs, ice cream, and a few gluten free treats for the Redhead. Either the store had turned its AC down, or there was a problem with my own thermostat, because I felt hot and sticky and was thoroughly disgruntled by the time I came home with my bags and bags of loot.
I thought I was going to get more things done later, but we were on call to pick up Dr. Nurse and Mr. Dr. Nurse at the airport. This took longer than expected because their flight was repeatedly delayed due to thunderstorms. But it was worth it to make things go more smoothly for them. Who wants to come home on a crowded, overdue flight and then have to call Uber? I never found that to be fun. This way, we swooped them up and they were home in no time. And we amused ourselves with chatting in the cell phone lot while waiting, which is pretty much what we would have been doing on the couch at home. When I saw how late the flight would be, I also packed up a bag of provisions for them so they could have something to eat when they got home: sandwich fixings, carrot and celery sticks, fruit, a bag of salad and a couple of cans of soup. I also know what it's like when you get off the plane and you're starving and it's late and you know there's nothing in the refrigerator at home. (Not, of course, that this ever happened to me when I traveled alone, because the Sparrowhawk always provides something good for me. But there have been times when we traveled together and were pretty happy to spot an overlooked can of soup in the pantry on our return.)
