IbexBleat of Simmer
Jul. 27th, 2021 08:47 pmThe Philosopher says he feels a little better, but still needs painkillers. No tell-tale rash yet. An optometrist may be able to shed some light. We hope the problem will turn out to be whatever is most easily fixed. Sigh.
No walk today, but we went to the bookstore cafe and hung out for the first time in ages! It was exciting. Although I would have enjoyed it a little more if a group of six ladies had not chosen the table closest to us for their conversation. Everything is still socially distanced, and there were many spots unoccupied, but no, they wanted just that table. They were pretty loud. However, I guess I should be grateful that they were discussing cruises rather than surgery. I remembered why I used to bring my earbuds, which I will do next time. I finally found a copy of Jo Walton's Or What You Will, and bought it. I also pre-ordered a copy of A Storm of Horses, by Ruth Sanderson. It's not coming out until February, but pre-orders are good. It's a picture book biography of Rosa Bonheur. Beautiful horses! Impressionist woman painter! I'll await it with pleasure.
I did a little more weeding, and gathered enough beans and peapods to provide veggies for the two of us, along with sweet corn, tomatoes in basil and balsamic dressing, and the Sparrowhawk's grilled steak. I see that there are half a dozen more little Dragon's Egg cucumbers burgeoning. Also there's one tiny tomato beginning to swell! If I even get just one, I will be so happy.
