Pronghorn of Simmer
Aug. 4th, 2021 10:02 pmOops, it's still Simmer. I jumped the gun on the new moon. It is yet to come. We've had a couple of almost-clear nights, to see Saturn hanging on the thread of the ecliptic like a big, oval topaz. I got a haircut this morning, and when I got home, finally got a call from Madame. I had been concerned about her because she said she would get in touch after her hip replacement. It has been quite a bit longer than is usually required for rehab from that surgery. It turns out she had some pretty major complications, but is now home and able to walk upstairs with her cane for the first time in awhile. I'm relieved that she's okay.
I cooked dinner: artichokes, mashed potatoes, pork chops with a lemon-tarragon and mustard sauce with a little apricot jam added. It was moderately successful. I might put a little more mustard in next time. Then I went for a walk while the Sparrowhawk was at the gym. Then I took a shower. My hair cutter puts just a little product in my hair when she's blow-drying it. It's not much, but I really can't tolerate it. By the time I'd been wearing it for a few hours, I was itchy and aggravated, and it was a huge relief to wash it all off. While we were catching up, I mentioned that my brother's non-binary child is having a baby welcome party later this month, near Pittsburgh. I really want to support my brother and his family, but I'm feeling increasingly dubious about traveling. My hair cutter and her suite mate at the salon told me about an identical gathering--baby shower in the park, outside--where EVERYONE BUT TWO PEOPLE GOT COVID-19. And they were all vaccinated. Oy. I just don't want to take that kind of a chance. I'm hearing more and more of these stories.
