EveningBat of Shadow
Oct. 18th, 2021 10:04 pmIt was another sparkling, pretty day. The dishwasher repairman came with the new part, took out the old one, and said yep, the seal at the bottom had been leaking. He relieved us of a couple more hundred dollars; still cheaper than replacing the appliance, plus they're hard to find these days, like everything else. So now we can use the dishwasher again, which will be pleasant. It's just lucky I happened to be in the basement when it was leaking, or the damage to the floor would have merrily continued. Before the repairman came, I prepped some pork steak with barbecue sauce and lots of vegetables and put it in the oven to cook for dinner. Then I went upstairs, cleaned the bathroom and sorted out some summer clothes to be washed and put away. I talked to Queenie. She's having her surgery tomorrow. I finished reading The Gods of Mars. It's a very weird book, but I'm holding off on saying it's the weirdest of the series until I read Mastermind of Mars again. Memory tells me that one may be even more so. The Sparrowhawk went to the gym, and I took a walk. The hickory trees are turning golden. The milkweed pods are open, and their silky fluffs are drifting out into the wind. It's a bumper year for hickory nuts, black walnuts, and acorns. Also for pine cones, which are thickly covered with sugary white sap. It looks like candy, and if I were a child, I'd probably try licking it. But I won't, because I have tried it, when I was a child, and I know it tastes like turpentine!
