Granite of Shadow
Oct. 24th, 2021 10:07 pmWe continued to enjoy being home today. We had a leisurely morning with our morning beverages and the last of the doughnuts from the orchard. I took a badly needed shower, and then we went out for a walk. (Deb has a gorgeous shower with two different shower heads, but I skipped mine yesterday in favor of spending more time with people.) It was a cloudy day with the smell of autumn in the air and just a few yellow and red leaves on the path. I finished reading The Warlord of Mars and called Queenie. She said she's feeling really good, and she sounded good! She is recovering from her surgery really well so far. However, her sense of smell is starting to come back, but as seems to happen fairly often with COVID survivors, things don't smell the same to her. She says everything smells like garbage and tin cans. Things she used to like, like scrambled eggs, don't taste good any more. So she's living on rice, bland cheese, and cookies. It was great to hear her sounding so much more like herself.
We still had some leftover chicken in the refrigerator, so I cut that up and made chicken and gravy with veg (chopped onions, carrots, peas), mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, and biscuits. When plated, it looked like a photo from some women's magazine of the 50s. Not a gourmet recipe, but good for a day that quickly turned to chilly rain.
