We just got back from a trip to see "Dune" in IMAX. It's been a long, long time since we saw a movie. Possibly "Knives Out" in November 2019? The IMAX theater is very big and well-ventilated--although apparently everyone picked seats near the middle of the theater, so we were not far from other people. I don't feel worried about it, though. I also bought popcorn. Wow, if this is the movie you have to wait a couple of years to see, it was worth it. The Nonesuch and I had agreed earlier that what we really wanted in a movie was just to be somewhere else--another world, another time, somewhere different, big, spacious, amazing. And if there was a plot and characters, that would be a bonus. I would say this version of "Dune" far exceeded expectations. And it wouldn't have been at all the same on the small screen. Not at all. The planet is a character here, and that wouldn't fit on your TV. There are some great Schoenherr moments early on, like his illustrations for the serial version come to life. Now I'm just sad that I'll have to wait so long for the second part. This is so good that I think the odds are pretty good that we'll get part 2, eventually.

In other news, I slow-roasted a pork shoulder with a brown sugar and spice rub and a bottle of Backwoods Bastard, with a view to making pulled pork out of it. It was cooked for about three hours at 300 degrees with a top on, and then another hour or so with the top off, and then we had to go to the movies, so I put the top back on, turned the oven off, and let it cool in the oven. When we got home, it was just cool enough to handle, and was falling clean off the bone, with some nice burnt ends, even! Tomorrow I'll pull it and make the drippings into a barbecue sauce.
