It was another very cold day, but now, at 10:30 pm, long after sunset, it's 32 degrees, the warmest it's been in days. Very odd weather, but is there any other kind? I've been complaining that I will never get to go to the bookstore, so this morning the Sparrowhawk said "Why don't we go now?" There wasn't actually any reason not to, so we did that. Of course, the Christmas sale items I had been hoping for were all gone at this point. I actually used up almost all of my wrapping paper stash, and was hoping to replenish it cheaply, but it was not to be. We each bought one book. But it was fun to be there.

While the kids were here, I introduced Tron to a local bakery, and then she introduced the Lumberjack to it, and it became their new favorite thing. As we got in the car to drive home, the Sparrowhawk hinted that one could get really good cinnamon rolls there. So when we got to that cross street, I turned left and went there. I had to drop him off in the alley, because there is never enough parking. I had to go park on the street and then pick my way down the alley over the ice and snow like a nervous penguin. We got the cinnamon roll, a raspberry Danish, a ham and cheese croissant for his lunch, and a five-pound loaf of wheat bread from the day-old table. I couldn't resist it. I cut it up and put some in the freezer. It's the size of a baby piglet and kind of chewy, but delicious. Then I had to go to the dentist and get my teeth cleaned. That was the not-fun part. Meanwhile, the Sparrowhawk took my key fob to the local auto repair to get the battery replaced. I had been looking up YouTubes on how to do it yourself. I found one that was hilarious of a guy replacing the battery in a gas station. He said "goddammit" every ten seconds, but he finally got the job done. I figured if he could do it, we could, but the Sparrowhawk did not feel that intrepid. The funny part is that he handed it over to the guy who told him on the phone that he cold do it, but that guy didn't come back for a long time. When he did, he was in company with ANOTHER guy, the one who actually was brave enough to take it apart.

Another not-fun part of the day is that Deb's brother, who was in ICU with Covid for a month, and another month in rehab, and whose survival was really miraculous, is now back in ICU with an unknown illness. We don't know yet what it is. At least he's not on a ventilator again. Tron has what feels like a bad cold, but she got a negative test result, so we're hoping she doesn't have covid. The Sparrowhawk's gym coach's husband tested positive and is feeling pretty bad. Gym is canceled again for the rest of the week. It's all around us. And now I've been out to three different places today. Masked everywhere, but still. Another peculiar year ambles out of the starting gate and stands in the middle of the track, looking perplexed.
