Jan. 25th, 2022 11:05 pmForgot to post because I was answering two emails, and now it's late, so here's a brief compendium of bits. I scraped off the driveway again this morning. It really was a brief scraping of only an inch or so of overnight snow. For the information of those who live in the non-snow country, I still try to get rid of it even if it's very little accumulation, because I don't want it to make an ice layer. I went to the grocery store earlier in the week than usual, because I wanted to get the Sparrowhawk some more AlkaSeltzer. It's his self-medication of choice for the lingering congesstion. I was slightly more with it than last time, but I still committed Coupon Fail. I had the right coupons. I put the right things in the basket. Then I went through the self-checkout and forgot to scan the coupons. Oh fer Pete's sake. Well, never mind, I'll do it next week. The people who send the coupons very cleverly tailor them to the stuff I almost always buy anyway, which is nice.
As I was musing about Barsoom in the afternoon, it started snowing again, but the sun came out a little and created a whirl of glitter amid the dancing flakes. It was very pretty, even if I will have to scrape it off the driveway again tomorrow. I wonder if the fae have a clean-up crew that sweeps up all the magical glitter after the unicorn parade has passed.
My friend Dragonfly came by and dropped off a very sparkly birthday card, speaking of glitter, and a box of Turkish Delight! We just waved at each other across the sidewalk, because she is quite concerned about staying germ-free. I remarked apologetically that I was still in my leisure wear. She said it was, and I quote, "a great outfit." Oh honey no. I'm afraid not. I'll tell you exactly what it was: a pair of dark blue fleece pants with snowflakes on them, and a ratty old SG1 khaki t-shirt topped with the Sparrowhawk's plaid fleece-lined flannel shirt which I caught up hastily off the back of a chair. By NO stretch of the imagination was this even vaguely presentable. Also I was barefoot. I enjoy leaving barefoot footprints in the snow to amuse delivery people. Either Bigfoot or a lunatic lives here.
I thawed out some lamb broth I had in the freezer and made vegetable soup with that plus onions, carrots, potatoes, mushrooms, and the inner bits of a stalk of celery, including the chopped tender leaves. I didn't have to season it because it was already deliciously seasoned from the leg of lamb I cooked in it. It was a good supper for a cold day.
