Jun. 13th, 2022 09:15 pmIn the course of writing a few more words today, I discovered that "causeway" does not mean what I thought it did. I rather suspected this, which is why I looked it up. So now I know! It probably derives ultimately from the Latin word "calx," meaning heel. Ah, words. They are to me what bitcoin is to some misguided suckers. Except that mine are a true treasure. A wordhoard is one that can never be taken by a dragon.
Today I met with Dragonfly in person, for the first time in months! Last month, when we intended to see each other for real, I had just been having covid, so it didn't work out. (And I can't believe that was only a few weeks ago.) We had a delightful chat on her screened porch, and then lunch outdoors at a nearby restaurant. Yesterday, I finished weeding the last bit of the front flower bed. Today, the Sparrowhawk went and got some bags of mulch while I was working. If the weather's not to bad tomorrow, maybe we can spread some of it around before it gets super hot. We were planning to get a whole truckload, but we've cut our coat to fit our cloth, as we're not going to have time and energy to do that before we invade the Rhine.
I took Dragonfly a belated gift of strawberries. She seemed much more thrilled than was really warranted, but I admit they are really good! We've had a couple of helpings now. The Sparrowhawk said, "We're so lucky to live where they can grow strawberries." Yes, and all the other good things I anticipate from the summer.
