Sep. 26th, 2022 09:38 pmOn occasion when I check Facebook, I get quotes sent to me by a page that features philosophers, on the one hand, and on the other hand, by a page that features boxers. The philosophers are usually full of baloney, but the boxers are surprisingly on the money. Boxing is brutal, but I have a lot of respect for boxers, for instance Mike Tyson, who is a much smarter guy than he is normally given credit for. Here's a good one from Floyd Mayweather:
"I know how I could beat myself: by not being disciplined, by slacking, by not dedicating myself to my craft, by not working hard, by not listening, by thinking I know it all--shit like that."
Ouch. Shit like that, indeed.
Back when I was a child, my interests might have been more suitable for a short, middle-aged man with a cigar stub clenched in his teeth. I liked boxing, horse racing, and baseball. I also liked going out in a boat, and cooking things over a fire in the woods. I wanted to be a cowboy when I grew up. Yet here I am, an old lady. Life is funny.
