I had to spring into action rather too early this morning, as it was my day to visit with Dragonfly at 10, and then the Sparrowhawk remembered he had to be at church for the money-counting at 9, so I had to make myself fit to exit the house and zip through the icy streets to drop him off. On returning, I observed that my reclusive neighbor was stuck at the end of his driveway again, just like the last time. I saw a nice young woman approaching from the house on his other side, bearing a snow shovel, and I decided to let her rack up some gold stars this time around. After awhile, a tow truck came down the street, and I was pleased to see that someone was showing some good sense. However, just before the tow truck arrived, they got the car loose, so the tow truck went away disappointed. I am disappointed that a man who drives a BMW is too cheap to pay to have his driveway ploughed, but we all have our little quirks, I guess.

The Sparrowhawk suggested he could walk home, until I pointed out that 1) it is 16 degrees out; 2) everything is covered in ice and snow; and 3) you have a condition that involves balance issues and coordination. Hello, disaster. Then it occurred to him that he could get one of his colleagues to give him a ride. I hate to raise these issues, because sometimes prudence just makes you feel defeated, but he was perfectly cheerful about it, and one of the other money counters did give him a ride. So he was safe and sound at home, with a spare donut for me, when I got there after a pleasant meditation, chat, and lunch. I brought him a take-out box of the deviled eggs he likes.

Then I frustrated myself by trying to figure out formatting issues I hadn't tried to do before, and writing a cover letter to my editor. I stopped in the middle of that to Zoom with Moonmoth and the Nonesuch, and then went back to it when the Sparrowhawk went to the gym. I have sent my 60,000 word book off to the editor! Success! Well, success with stage one, anyway. Stage two will be when I find out if he likes it. Without second stage ignition, we cannot achieve orbit.
