Comfrey of Bliss
May. 6th, 2023 09:34 pmWhen you find yourself listening to Colm McGuinness singing "Barrett's Privateers" to cheer yourself up, you know you've sunk pretty far down. "Now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier/The last of Barrett's Privateers . . . " A commenter describes the song thus: "Irishman angrily sings about the worst cruise someone ever took." Haha. Well, that would be one way of putting it.
I hardly did anything today except consume vicarious experiences through visual media. We started off in the morning watching the coronation. I'm here for the horses! Also the Princess Royal taking her outfit very seriously, including the hat, and riding a big black horse. Ancient artifacts. Including the diamond as big as the Ritz. I felt the King should be able to shoot out laser rays through it, otherwise what's the point? I didn't have any proper biscuits--only some stale Oreos. Then there was a brief episode where a friend's email caused me to go through a lot of little boxes of memories in search of the love beads my sister made me back in 1960-something. I used to wear them every day. I haven't found them yet, but I found a lot of other things I'd forgotten about. The Sparrowhawk accompanied me on a walk around the block, which was all we had time for. Woe.
Some scarves I ordered came in the mail, but were a disappointment. The purveyors portrayed themselves as an Italian company. When the product arrived, everything written on the packet was in Chinese. Apparently I screwed up and got the wrong sizes. Ah well. Like so many things in my life, colorful but a bit off. I had a nice Zoom with Moonmoth and the Nonesuch. Unfortunately, NOT writing was still a bit of a topic. Then the Sparrowhawk and I watched the Derby, while texting with Queenie. Also disappointing. None of the horses we liked won, although Two Phils did come in second. Apparently it didn't help that I was wearing my new scarf with a horse on it. Now I'm going to watch the Stargate: SG-1 themed version of "High School Never Ends" and call it a day.
