Katydid of Zenith
Jun. 29th, 2023 10:16 pmThe sky . . . was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.
Hahaha. It really was. And I have opened up a post for the sole purpose of saying that. If I were a little farther west, where there actually are ports, I could have used the whole sentence without ellipsis. The smoke is still with us, and it does create a peculiar deadness of affect in the sky. As well as the pervasive scent of ashes, asthmatic sensations, stinging eyes, and headaches in the onlooker. I suppose a dead television channel might do the same, but I've never tried staring at one for long. The whole concept is kind of in the past now, with the advent of cable and streaming services.
Other than that I have little to report. Of the last three nights, two have been spent having back to back three hour naps, separated by stomach trouble and a couple of hours of being awake. The third, last night, was five hours of sleep at one go, but then it ended abruptly after a dream that put me in a mood where I found it impossible to go back to sleep. This is not working well.
I'm not sure I should chortle over this quote coming true. It's not the kind of thing one wants to encounter, in this slightly used future. I remember when Neuromancer first came out, and everyone was so excited. I feel old.
