This was supposed to be my day off from people, in which I would get a lot done, ha ha. But forgot a friend had called while the power was briefly out again on Tuesday (just in my neighborhood, with the reason given as "trees") so I owed her a callback. So I did that. This friend has attitude for miles, which I love, but still, I do wish there was somebody who wanted to talk to me and didn't have health, mobility, and financial problems. I was clawing my way up from covid, and thought I was doing okay, but two days in a row of this stuff has sent me into a private personal tailspin. I wish I were impervious to such thoughts, but it seems to be another thing to which my immunity is imperfect.

Anyway, I then vacuumed some dust upstairs and cleaned a toilet. Big whoopie. I've been writing down my recurrent thoughts about Things That Need Doing. I'm on the second page now. The Sparrowhawk took the car to have the annoying squeaky rattle looked at. They figured out that it was the wiper bushing that was worn out and had become loose. It was not on warranty--of course not--and cost 400 dollars to replace. Ouch. On the other hand, I just watched a YouTube about how to replace your wiper bushings yourself, and my conclusion is, better them than me! As my father used to say, quoting Hilaire Belloc, "It is the business of the wealthy man/To give employment to the artisan." Not that I or my father before me could be described as wealthy, but we're not auto mechanics either. Also, to perform this task properly, I'd apparently need a power tool for removing screws and and a special little magnet on the end of a long wire to stop the screws from falling down into the engine compartment. Perhaps in some other life . . . .
