I made a fairly spectacular amount of pulled pork for the potluck yesterday, and then, when we got home, cleaned all the pots and pans that were used in the process, so I was tired. I think it was appreciated, because by the end of the picnic, the pot was not just empty, but scraped clean. I've been clearing out my freezer. I kept it full for the past couple of years, but we've had two power outages recently. Neither one was long enough to compromise the frozen meat, but they made me nervous, and I think it's time to use up what's there. Then I'll have to slowly stock up again.

Today it rained all day. My call with Queenie was later than usual, because she was waiting for the AC repairman. It's no joke to lose your AC in Florida. After I talked to her, I made a batch of cookies for the Sparrowhawk to take to his gym class. I also assisted him in changing the light bulb in the hall. That is to say, he climbed up on the stepladder, and I stood by to steady him and to receive things handed down to me. Then we moved the futon out of my office upstairs and into the guest bedroom. It's a very unwieldy object and took two of us to haul it. Both of these tasks were done in anticipation of the arrival of a painter to give an estimate for painting the ceilings in the downstairs bathroom and my office. While the Sparrowhawk was at the gym, I went through two or three boxes of papers that needed to be removed to the recycling bin. I felt good about getting rid of them.

During a couple of my recent midnight wakings, I heard the owl hooting merrily away. In fact I think it was two owls in tandem. This was delightful. It's been a long time since they've made their presence known.
