Marmot of Leave
Oct. 11th, 2023 08:58 pmI had to get up too early for a doctor's appointment at 8 am. The benefit of this is that the waiting room is empty and they have not yet fallen behind, so they see you right on time. The appointment was for a different matter, but they offered to give me a flu shot while I was there, so I gladly took advantage of the offer. Rethinking that a bit now, as I'm starting to feel wonky and the injection site hurts. But I don't want the flu, so I guess I just have to suffer this substitute aggravation.
When I got home, I found Dr. Music giving the Sparrowhawk his lesson. He was looking a bit hollow-eyed, after a bad night of non-sleeping baby, and a schedule change at work. He asked if he could have some hot water to make tea. I asked if he would also like a sandwich, since it sounded as if he wasn't going to have time to get lunch. I put a PB&J, an orange, and some chocolate in a bag for him. Then I went to the grocery store to pick up a few things, like vegetables, that we've run out of. I'll try to go back and do the second half of my shopping on Friday so I can get the 50 cents off gas coupon. Today, Tony the Singing Checker told me I qualified for the senior discount, because it's Wednesday. I said "Oh good, I forgot about that." Tony, who has a rich mellifluous voice, intoned, "And that fact proves that you qualify. By your actions, you show yourself to be qualified." I started laughing. Oh lordy. Alas, it is true.
I addressed and sent off three cards: two birthday and one general encouragement. It is a very old lady thing to do. I persuaded myself to go for a walk when the Sparrowhawk went to the gym. I didn't feel like going. It always looks so much gloomier when looking out from the inside. "Come on, step out, you might like it," I told my reluctant self. It did turn out to be nice. The clouds were clearing slowly in the west. The street is closed for construction in the direction I usually go, but this turned out well. I went the other way instead, past the garden store and the Orthodox church with its dome. From this direction, there are pleasant vistas of sky and pine trees. Tomorrow it's going to rain a lot, so I'm glad I went today. I'm also glad I got home before the flu shot kicked in.
