Granite of Shadow
Oct. 25th, 2023 08:25 pmIt turned out today was Madame day, after all. She told me last week she was going to have two teeth pulled yesterday, but when I checked in with her, she was fired up to go out. She saw the dentist yesterday, but they didn't pull the teeth yet. I guess that will happen later. When I pulled into the driveway, she was coming out of the garage. However, when she got into the car, she said her implant wasn't working at all, and she couldn't hear anything. She went back into the house to see if she could find her second battery. She came back out of the garage carrying a checkbook in one hand, but no battery. "What did I go in there to get?" she said, puzzled. At that point, I accompanied her back into the house. Still no battery was to be found. I suggested, mostly via pantomine since she actually couldn't hear me, that we could take the battery charger in the car, and plug it in there. By the time we got to the bookstore, it was charged enough to last for the duration of our visit. It died around the time we needed to come home, anyway. She gave me some momentous news--Mademoiselle is pregnant! This is something Mademoiselle has been desiring for some time, and had almost despaired of, so it's wonderful news, although it means that she is feeling ill even more often than before. Now more than ever, it's a race with time to get Madame to a safer living space. She said that two people from her new future residence were coming to the house after lunch to talk to her. Hopefully, to talk to her about when and how she will move in!
When I got home, the cable guys had arrived. The city has installed a new municipal internet. The first time it was offered, we turned it down. However, the guy who came around on Monday talked us into trying it free for a month. Our Comcast is irritatingly unreliable in the front room. We hope this might work better. However, if it takes the installers as long to do every house as it did to do ours, they're not going to make much money. They had a lot of trouble, and I finally fled upstairs to get away from them, shamelessly leaving the Sparrowhawk to deal with them. Once there, I promptly got a call from Queenie, who had just returned from a trip to Slovenia and had a lot to tell me about it. Now my brain is tired . . . . It's raining, and will probably go on raining all day tomorrow. Nevertheless, tomorrow may be more restful than today.
