GoldMopCypress of Celeste
Jan. 4th, 2024 09:54 pmI had an unusually fancy day today, in which I left the house more times than I have in a week. The Sparrowhawk and I went out in the morning to search for a silver cup for Aquinas for his first birthday, which is coming up. His other grandmother is Korean, and it is a Korean tradition to celebrate the first birthday as a significant event. This includes a special outfit for the honoree, which his other grandmother has provided, and the gift of a gold ring to the child, which she will also be providing. A silver cup isn't quite at the same level, but we felt it would be a good effort. They didn't have exactly what we wanted, but they are going to contact their suppliers and see if they can find one. We also left a pearl earring that had come off its hook, to be mended. Then we went to the bookstore for lunch and coffee. I happened upon a copy of The Elven Cookbook by Robert Tuesley Anderson, and bought it. I mean, obviously we all know that no one can cook like an elf, and we also know that Tolkien was a bit vague about the world-building around raw ingredients. But the illustrations and recipes are adorable, and I hope they'll be tasty enough.
We stopped off at home, and then I went back out to my mammogram, which had been rescheduled for 3 instead of 3:25. I have no idea why, but they seemed enthusiastic about rescheduling, so I let them do it. They were pleasant, as always, and zipped right through it. Alas, I got the results back already, and they want to schedule another diagnostic. I looked up the reason for that and found that it results in bad findings less than 2% of the time, so I'm not worried, but it is annoying. Very annoying.
The Sparrowhawk then took me out to dinner for German night at a favorite restaurant. He had the five dollar dunkel and I had the kolsch, and we both had pork schnitzel, delicious lentil soup, and an assortment of Germanic sides, followed by chocolate creme brulee. Then we came home and watched "The Fellowship of the Ring," up to the point where the Fellowship makes it through Moria. We had decided that we'd watch the movie as soon as we got through Moria in the book. Last night we went to bed extra early so the Sparrowhawk could read all the way to the end of the chapter. It doesn't do to pause there before sleeping! It took supreme self-control to stop before Lorien, but we did it. It was a good day with only that one irksome bit, and made up for some recent disappointments in the going out department.
